Movies, monotony, and mending

The bright side to being sick is that it forces me to slow down. I'm not sure why I need a reason to relax, but being sick certainly gives me a great excuse. We are all feeling a lot better now and I made the right decision to cancel my San Francisco trip and stay home.

I did a whole lot of nothing this weekend and it felt great! The couch has a slight indentation in it where I parked my behind, the scarf I'm knitting (my second project) is double in size, and I was able to get caught up on a few movies. Oh, bliss.

E and C went to see Avatar on Saturday night while M and I stayed home to watch The Happening (not much happened in that movie, but I'll watch Mark Wahlberg in anything). Avatar is apparently eye candy with not much substance: visually spectacular, cheesy dialogue, vapid plot. I'd still like to see it on the big screen. E and C enjoyed it and said the special effects were worth the 162 minutes.

Yesterday I watched Paranormal Activity during the sunny daylight hours. It was creepy and certainly played upon all of my childhood fears (and maybe a few of my adult ones). I suppose it would have been brilliant if Blair Witch hadn't already introduced us to the faux documentary genre.

I also caught 3/4 of Revolutionary Road which was thought provoking but thoroughly depressing.

I managed to get out of the house for a few hours on Saturday to attend a memorial service. Unfortunately, two of our older neighbors passed away within a week of each other. Each left behind their wives of 60 years. Both were very active until the last year of their lives. It was sad to say goodbye to them yet joyful to reflect on their lives. May they both rest in peace.

What did you do this weekend?!
